Great idea, perfectly in-theme, with realistic ink diffusion. Unfortunately, getting and putting back ImageData at each frame is too slow. Have you tried other solutions, such as copying the canvas with partial transparency and composite operations??
I like the color mixing. It is very, very slow, though.
